I know I should wait until he's had a chance to check his e-mail and post a post of his own and all that jazz, but I'm too psyched. Waiting is not an option.
Ryan's 3-Day Novel was an Honourable Mention. I believe that means that he's made the short list. Which I also believe means that he and G "tied" for their 3-Day Novel efforts.
I don't know how this works within the roommate dynamic, but I'd say it's damned good news.
So, congrats. Congrats. Congrats!
Here's the link with all the winners.

Holy shit!
I am, obviously, delighted.
Thank you for your prompt attention to the matter.
I did not, sadly, in her eyes, tie with G. She and I had a long and taunting discussion about this prior to the event.
As she had to do this thing with a camera up her ass while sharing a bedroom with 11 other people, she claims that I would have had to actually win the whole shooting match to even tie.
So, that's her side of it.
Having been there, I feel that the presence of the other writers and her seclusion acted to her BENEFIT.
So the matter is unresolved and our household dynamic of spite and competition continues.
Of course, I did just get a great big hug.
So, there's that.
Thank yous are in order to Gayleen, and the rest of the 12 folks who did the show with her, though. They showed me that it was totally possible to do it.
Thanks are also due to Rilla, who was down in the shit with me that weekend, and who kept me calm and centered as I was about to surrender.
Thanks also to the My Pretty Pony Women's Auxillary and Sewing Circle, who helped Harry breathe in ways even I don't full understand.
Apologies due to the Church of Latter-Day Saints.
Ryan knows full well--as he did the math on this, too--that I only had two days of time in which to write. If he wants bragging rights, he will have to short-list again after having only written for two days. Until then, he remains a mere bitch.
G-
I'm really pleased for him, though. And appalled for Mormons everywhere.
Fantastic! I've read it (am I allowed to say that?), and I loved it, so I am unsurprised but only delighted that the judging committee showed such startlingly excellent taste.
Well, thanks Cori.
Honestly, what freaks me out the most is that the book could be construed as REALLY offensive to Mormons.
A lot.
I just re-read it, and I am, honestly, pretty happy with it. It's rough as hell, and needs polishing and expansion, but that's to be expected.
While I was writing it, I'd never given a thought as to how...um...vile some of it really was.
Also I use public domain characters and even real people with a flagrant disregard throughout, and some frown on that.
With that stuff in mind, I am genuinely astonished to have shortlisted.
I'm arrogant enough to believe I could place. I just didn't think I'd do it with this book.
But I'm happy. Very
Part of a conversation I had about this at work last week:
Me: It's not that I don't think he deserves to make the list, in terms of the quality of the writing. The quality's there. I just don't think it's going to happen because I think they'll be reluctant to associate themselves with some of the content.
Coworker: But publishers print offensive things all the time.
Me: Yeah, but this is a non-profit group that relies on donations and grants.
Coworker: True. That changes things.
And then we were sort of sad, because we didn't figure this would work out. But apparently we underestimated the balls of the folks over at 3-Day.
